Week 2 Fantasy Predictions

Well, Week 1 was as confusing as ever this season. I managed to have some hits and misses last week, but that’s what happens when you swing like Pedro Ciriaco. The important thing is that Week 2 will be different from Week 1, since I actually have something to go on. Hopefully, I will be able to win in my league as well (Beanie Wells out, Michel Bush in). Here is a look at my top players for this week.

Quarter Back: Jake Locker/Matt Hasselbeck. Okay, I know this is cheating, but it’s also what I should have done last week at running back. Whoever starts will do well, and I have reasons. First, both played pretty well against the Patriots’ improved defense last week. Second, did you watch the Chargers’ game? That might have been the worst three hours of television ever. My roommates and I started playing Jenga during the fourth quarter. Third, Kenny Britt is back, and quarter backs love getting new toys.

Running Back: Jamaal Charles. Charles is one of the fastest players in the league, which is a big advantage over the slower Bills. Seriously, Buffalo, how do you call yourself a playoff contender after letting up that many points against the Jets? I predict Charles will break off at least one 40-yard run for a score on Sunday.

Wide Receiver: Calvin Johnson. Matt Stafford had a bad day last Sunday. Johnson still managed to score 11 fantasy points. I would expect more from Megatron against a secondary that had a surprisingly hard time keeping Randall Cobb in check.

Tight End: Jared Cook. The big man led the Titans in receiving last week, and he will be a go-to target in the red zone. Locker seemed to use him as a security blanket, which is always a good sign for a tight end working with a new quarter back.

Kicker: Mike Nugent. Bengals vs. Browns just has field-goal-fest written all over it, right? I’m just glad that Omaha didn’t get stuck with this game. Seriously, why do we have to watch the worst games every weekend? Is it because Omaha is the only city that supports the UFL? Anyway, pick up Nugent.

Defense: Buffalo Bills. Wait, what? Didn’t I just spend a paragraph blasting the Bills? I did, but I also think they are a solid pick-up. First, everyone who had them already dropped them by now. Second, I’m hedging my bets. Third, and most important, stupid things happen to the Chiefs. They could look like they’re in good shape, but then they’ll just Kansas City their way out of a win. I’ve seen it before, you’ve seen it before, and you know what I’m talking about. If you are desperate for a defense, just circle the wagons.

Time to pick the loser of Week 2, hopefully it’s not me.

Loser: Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben looked like his usual self in Week 1, but that’s not always a good thing. He took too many sacks, threw a pick six and missed Mike Wallace wide open down the field. Now he has to face the Jets and what may be the best secondary in the league. Don’t expect much in Pittsburgh.

I’ll see you next week to take back everything I just said.
